The Software, audio, video category includes web resources used for downloading the following files:
- Audio and video materials: movies, recordings of sports broadcasts, recordings of concerts, any audio compositions, clips, videos, educational audio and video recordings, etc.
- Torrent trackers and file sharing web sites, regardless of the physical location of distributed files.
- Electronic software catalogs, including trial versions.
Priority: Medium
Pros: A child will not be able to download malware or any restricted movies or games.
Cons: Potential drawbacks include automatic blocking of all resources containing audio and video materials.
Recommendations: In order for a child to watch cartoons and listen to music, parents are advised to add trusted websites containing video and audio (e.g. cartoons) to the whitelist. If a parent is assured that a child is unable to install malware, or if there is specific local software controlling the processes of downloading and installing applications, the websites of this category can remain unblocked. Websites containing adult content (18+) are detected by other designated content categories.
